Regional Excel Coach, Jo Binns delivers the 'Technical Training' element of the National Excel Programme within the Excel Academy. Players who attend the Excel Academy are either currently in the National Excel Programme or have been identified as having potential to play for England. The Academy in the South West is based at two venues where the athletes attend fortnightly training:

• TeamBath, University of Bath Sports Training Village, Bath
• University of Exeter Sports Park, Exeter

All athletes regularly complete an online athlete training log which enhances their organisational skills and encourages greater responsibility to training and performance lifestyle, outside the netball environment.

The Excel Academy in the South West is closely linked with the National Talent League Side (NTL), TeamBath, which creates the competitive environment for many of these athletes, to enhance their development through experiencing high-pressure competition.
