Moonraker Junior Netball!

Sunday 5th November was a fantastic day! This was the 1st of three tournaments that are being organised this year in the hope to establish a new Moonraker junior league. The Moonraker league is currently a senior netball league that consists of clubs from North, West and Mid Wilts. The 5 clubs that competed were Malmesbury, Bradford on Avon, Chippenham, Kennet Valley & Devizes. These clubs entered various teams into the 4 age groups – High 5’s (U11), U12 & U14. We also had a number of umpires and table officials that travelled down from Swindon as well as 4 students from Devizes School to help with the running of this event.

When you combine a sunny crisp Nov day with nearly 100 enthusiastic young netballers playing over 6 courts, with coaches and families encouraging from the side lines you can see why we all had such a good day! It was great to see so many young players getting involved with netball and showing some fantastic talent and potential.

The U14 age group was won by Malmesbury, who were unbeaten all day with Kennet Valley as Runners Up. The U12 age group was won by Devizes with Kennet Valley as Runners up and the H5 age group was won by Devizes Pink with Devizes Blue as Runners Up. Congratulations to you all!

A number of teams competing hadn’t really played together for that long and it was great to see the improvement throughout the day. Due to this determination and enthusiasm of the players I asked all team managers to nominate a player of the tournament from their own team. This player may have worked really hard, played exceptionally well or improved greatly throughout the day. At the final presentation all these players received a Netball South West Teddy, which I’ve got a feeling we may be seeing in the future as team mascots!!

Finally a huge thank-you to everyone that helped to make this event run so smoothly and to everyone that took part. I look forward to seeing you all at the next tournament (date to be confirmed).
