Netball South West North Sub Regional League Play Offs
Six teams met at the STV, Bath University on Sunday 20th May for the North Sub Regional League Play Offs. Teams finishing in 8th and 9th, Roman Glass 2 and Imperial contested the play offs with the winners of the county leagues from Avon, Somerset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. Teams were split into two groups with the winners of each group getting automatic qualification to the league and the two second place teams then playing off for the remaining place.
In pool A, Raychem (Wiltshire) defeated Roman Glass 2 (Avon) 29-21 and then Hovelands (Somerset) 31-26 to win the group and automatic qualification. The last match in the group saw Hovelands beat Roman Glass 2 33-22 to progress to the play off match for the third spot. In pool B Swallows (Avon) beat first Imperials (Avon) 25-17 and then Glos Ladies (Gloucestershire) 27-21 to automatically qualify to the league. The last match as in pool A was to decide who progressed to play off for the final place, it was an extremely close encounter but Glos Ladies came out ahead against Imperials by one 17-16.
The play off match was a very tense encounter with a lot at stake, the first half was very close going goal for goal but it was Glos Ladies who were able to keep their composure and in the second half picked up the momentum taking a clear lead, despite a late fight back from Hovelands in the last couple of minutes they won 25-21 to take the remaining place in the league.
All matches were very competitive and played in a great spirit, it is fantastic for Netball South West to see the determination of all teams to try and gain a place in the League. Congratulations to all who participated.
