Insurance News from England Netball

England Netball has agreed an enhanced insurance and risk management package for its affiliated members through JLT Sport, the new official insurance broker for the Association. The new insurance cover goes beyond the standard terms offered by most other sports governing bodies, and recognises the disruption and problems which sports injuries can cause.

For the first time, England Netball’s new member insurance policy offers Temporary Total Disablement (TTD) cover, which will pay a set benefit to any member rendered unable to work for a period of time as a result of a netball injury. This cover is in addition to the “broken bones” and “convalescence” benefits introduced in 2005, which received a positive response from members.

“Netball, with its explosive speed and high intensity turning and impact movements, can often cause serious injuries,” comments Karen Rothery, England Netball’s Commercial Director, “and we are delighted to be, we believe, the first sports governing body to recognise the impact which these can cause to our members’ daily lives. We have worked closely with JLT to create an affordable package of benefits which are included in annual affiliation fees, and were particulary impressed by their innovative approach to providing us with a customised insurance package.

In addition to the TTD cover, the new England Netball insurance package includes a dedicated 0845 call line (chargeable at local rates) for members’ insurance queries, plus an interactive website, covering a range of general insurance questions, as well as providing online tutorials and assessments of key volunteers on issues including duty of care, child protection and risk management.

“To ensure that England Netball continues to provide the best possible benefits for its members, we will be working closely with JLT Sport and our other partners to ensure that our membership policy adapts to reflect the changes and increased pressures in the modern game. We have been delighted with JLT’s understanding and appreciation of the demands of netball, and of sports participation in general, and we look forward to a long and successful relationship with the company.”

JLT Sport’s Tony Venning adds: “JLT Sport is delighted to join forces with England Netball in providing effective insurance and risk management services to its members. The company is committed to taking a pro-active approach with the association to create sustainable long-term programmes which will bring lasting benefits to the netball community. “
