Safeguarding Young People

ChildLine Logo nspcc1Netball South West has adopted England Netball's policies and procedures to support the ongoing development of Safeguarding within Netball. NSW recognises its responsibilities under the terms of the Race Relations Act 1976, Sex Discrimination Act 1975, the Children Act 1989, the Protection of Children Act 1999, the Disability Discrimination Act 1996 and the Human Rights Act 1998.

Every child who participates in Netball should be able to do so in a fun, safe environment and be protected from harm. NSW places the highest priority on participants safety and enjoyment and recognises that they have a duty towards children within the sport and any member providing Netball opportunities must do so with the highest possible standard of care. A child is defined as being under 18 years of age (The Children Act 1989).

CRB Checks

There have been recent developments in relation to safeguarding, Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Checks:

  • Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks will no longer be required for those holding administrative roles (even if they affect policy), only those that are supervising / in the care of or in sole charge of young people should complete a check, please ensure people are not unnecessarily asked for checks as the forms will be returned and this causes unnecessary inconvenience to our volunteers.
  • CRB is now online. The admin cost of the online CRB check will be £11.15. The admin cost of the paperwork process will rise to £16, please ensure you use the new 'purple' forms. We advise all to work to the online system. It is more efficient, quicker, paperless and allows us to check on progress. More information is available on the England Netball CRB Checking page.
  • Time to Listen training will start to be rolled out in the regions from October. This is training created specifically for Club Safeguarding Officers.

More information about Safeguarding and England Netball's policies and procedures can be found on the England Netball website. This now contains information regarding the online CRB checks process, downloadable BeSafe posters for your Club's Safeguarding Officers and 'Best Practice for Clubs' information.
