Coaches across the region have requested that the E & T working group arrange some CPD opportunities for them. This we have dutifully done, however the opportunities are not being taken up and we will be forced to cancel activities unless participation improves.
The workshops are as follows:
Friday 29th February. 5pm - 9pm at Bath University. An observation session lead by Lyn Gunson at a Team Bath home fixture. This would be of particular interest to Level 2 club coaches. At present 7 have signed up and this session will be going ahead.
Sunday 6th April 10am - 1pm at Taunton School. An interactive/theory session where coaches will learn ways in which to analysing their coaching, develop skills on how to look at training needs analysis for themselves and their athletes culminating in implementing personal development plans for themselves and their athletes. This session will be lead by Patsy Colvin of sports coach UK. Currently 3 coaches have signed up for this and the workshop will be cancelled unless more sign up.
Sunday 27th April 10am - 1pm at Taunton School. A core stability workshop led by Denise Austin, volleyball community sports coach and national beach volleyball player/coach. Currently 3 coaches have signed up for this and the workshop will be cancelled unless more sign up.
Sunday 27th April (time and venue TBC - possibly Exeter) A netball specific multi-skills workshop lead by multi-skills community sports coach Ziggy Grewel. This workshop would be of particular interest to all coaches working with young children. Currently no coaches have signed up for this and the workshop will be cancelled unless more sign up.

Potential Umpire Tutor Support Evening
As a result of consultation from the members, the Education and Training Group agreed that it needed to support potential umpire tutors from across the area to attain their tutor’s award.
On Friday 30th June 2006 the working group organised a support evening for 5 potential umpire tutors in the region
The aim of the evening was to give each of the ‘would be’ tutors a practical opportunity to deliver a short session from the C Award Umpire Course to their peers in a relaxed and non-threatening environment.
For the evening we hired Seale Hayne Sports Hall, near Newton Abbot in Devon for 3 hours. The tutors came from Devon, Cornwall and Dorset and within the region we are fortunate to have even more in training, although not everyone was available on that night.
Each tutor prepared a 20-25 minute session in advance The sessions were mainly practical and were chosen so that, by the end of the evening each of the tutors had an opportunity to not only deliver their own session but also sit in on 4 others, each of them covering a different topic.
On the night, all of the tutors delivered excellent sessions and received feedback from Karen Jones, a C Award tutor, as well as getting positive feedback from the rest of the group.
At the end of the evening it was agreed that the participants needed an opportunity to deliver a C course in the near future, under the guidance of a qualified tutor in preparation for taking their award. Since then, 2 courses have been organised giving 3 participants this opportunity.
Feedback from those present was particularly positive and it is hoped we might be able to organise a similar evening next season. If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in attending this, please contact the Education and Training Group as soon as possible.
Regional Coaches Audit
In partnership with England Netball and sports coach UK the Education and Training Group has recently sent out a letter and newsletter to all qualified coaches in the South West Region.
The purpose of this communication was to ask all coaches to complete sports coach UK’s online Coach Profile form so we could gather some baseline data of coaches in the region.
Using this information we hope to be able to support our coaches by:
Providing information on netball specific projects, courses, workshops and other coaching opportunities
Supporting coaches with Personal Development Plans
Establishing a Regional Development Plan, including support to all coaches who complete the coach profile form
If you are a qualified coach and have not received this information but would like a copy please contact the Education and Training Group and we will forward you a copy.
To complete the online form, visit the web site at www.snapsurveys.com/sportscoachuk/. The following question on the profile form needs to be completed as follows.
Question: Have you got a Coach Licence? Yes
Sport? Netball
NGB? England Netball
Expiry Date? Individual Affiliation No.
We are already monitoring the web site weekly and during next season we will evaluate the responses and try to support those coaches who have completed the form. |
